Venezuela wins the Beachwear Final

The beachwear final is the first of the four fast track events to take place. See the highlights from the final.

Crowds gathered along Sopot beach to get a glimpse of the contestants as they walked onto the catwalk one by one dressed in the new Miss World beachwear range, designed by former Miss World Wilnelia Forsyth.
As the sun warmed up the grounds of the Grand Hotel, the twenty short-listed girls from this week’s heats were joined by an additional five catwalk finalists - Bosnia Herzegovina, Georgia, Jamaica, Brazil, and Bolivia.

All the 25 finalists looked stunning coming down the catwalk in the Miss World beachwear range with The Grand Hotel providing a magical backdrop. Americas topped the continental league table with six countries, closely followed by Southern and Northern Europe, each with five countries in the final 25. However, all continents were well represented, with the finalists epitomizing beauty from across the world.

The top 10 were selected from the original 25 who received their chance to woo the judges with another parade. The girls took to the catwalk with the verve and poise of seasoned super models. Roaring applause and cheers of encouragement came from the crowds and contestants as the ultimate five hopefuls were called out to the end of the catwalk in descending order:
5) Singapore
4) Angola
3) Czech Republic
2) India and
1) Venezuela.

Other countries that made it in to the final ten were Barbados, Romania, Scotland, Spain, and host country Poland.
Miss Venezuela looked elated as her name was announced last as the winner. The finalists joined her in celebration of her fast track place to the final and the winner of Miss World Beachwear 2006.

Venezuela commented: “The standard this year is very high and I didn’t think I would go all the way. It is very exciting to win the beachwear competition. I am proud to represent the people of my country as the first of sixteen finalists in Warsaw on 30 September.”
There are four fast track competitions in the Miss World 2006 Final, giving contestants the opportunity to earn a golden ticket to the final sixteen: Miss world Sportswoman, Beauty with a Purpose, Talent Final, and Miss World Beachwear. In addition, two finalists will be chosen from each continental zone: one the public’s choice from the global voting, the other the judges’ choice.

CZECH REPUBLIC - Tatana KUCHAROVA

She is a High School student, her future ambition is to attend university, graduate, have a modelling career which she hopes will enable her to travel; and to be a good parent one day. Her hobbies are: Tennis, volleyball, horse riding, ice skating and many other sports, she also enjoys dance and listening to music with a nice melody. Tatana likes to spend time with her many pets, she has: cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, a bird and a turtle. Favourite food is Chicken. Personal motto would be ‘Always be an optimist’.

Kazuha was born in Tochigi, an area known for its distinct and unique culture which has been affected by its isolated location and long history. It has an amazing four seasons and a wide variety of scenery and customs. Kazuha is now a senior student at the Keio University studying in the Faculty of Environmental Information. Her ambition is to work in the Publishing Industry and to become a writer. Hobbies include: reading, writing, cooking, jogging, badminton, dance (including jazz dance) and listening to Jazz. She has a special talent for calligraphy and flower arranging. Her proudest moment was when she organized a caf้ event to promote Japanese Culture; Favourite food is ‘Avocado’; Favourite saying is from a book by Ernest Hemingway “Winner takes Nothing”.

THAILAND - Melisa MAHAPOL

Melisa was born and grew up in Bangkok, Thailand, a country renowned for its warmth and happiness. This year Thailand is celebrating the 60th anniversary of his Majesty the King’s accession to the throne. Having obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Environment & Technology Melisa is now following her ambition to be a famous actress. She has also worked on a Community development at Phuken Village. She enjoys listening to pop and R & B music, traditional dancing, reading, drawing, acting, playing guitar, swimming and diving. Favourite food is: Tomyumkung and papaya salad. UNITED STATES - Brooke Elizabeth ANGUS

Brooke was born in Burlington and grew up in Essex, Vermont, a region known as New England. This region is known for having four distinct seasons , activities include skiing in the winter, beautiful falls for foliage viewing, hiking and lake activities in spring and summer. Booke has a Bachelor of Arts degree, and is currently working on her art portfolio, she plans to complete a master's degree in painting, ultimately she would love to teach studio art in a university. Hobbies and leisure interests are: Listening to all types of music, but U2 is her ultimate favourite, drawing, painting, artistic work, sewing, travelling, skiing, running, swimming and tennis. She has two Yorkshire terriers, Bunny and Scott. Favourite food is Sushi and bagels (but not together). Her most interesting job was volunteer work in China and India. She has completed high school with a secretarial diploma and is currently studying Management at University. Her ambition is to become an Air Hostess. During her spare time Srey has been a Tour Leader in Cambodia, cashier at a supermarket and she has taught Basketball to children. Hobbies and leisure interests are: Basketball, traditional Khmer dancing, reading magazines and cooking, she also enjoys listening to romantic music. Favourite food is stir-fried vegetables. Having achieved her degree in Business Administration at Beijing United University, she worked as a TV Host for “Fashion and Times” of the China Travel Channel. Currently she is one of the Hosts of “JOJO Good Life”, she also teaches children about the opera, movies and TV, her ambition is to open and run a school for the poor children in Beijing. Duo enjoys travelling and learning about different cultures, reading, watching movies, listening to Chinese traditional music and looking after her pet dog named Emy. MALAYSIA - Adeline Wan Ling CHOO
